The theme chosen for the conference is “Security and Facilitation: the way of the future”. This is aimed at focusing on the nexus between trade facilitation and security and the practical solutions for balancing the competing imperatives of security and trade facilitation in the region. This conference represents a milestone for CCLEC and it will present an opportunity for the organisation to review its strategic positioning in the region while addressing the global changes which will impact on the way Customs operates in the 21st century. Additionally, this year CCLEC is collaborating with the WCO in staging a Customs to Business Seminar on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th May, 2008. This event is expected to promote greater dialogue between Customs officials and representatives of private sector organisations and discuss the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) concept in particular its applicability for the region.
